Artificial Intelligence (AI) is on the precipice of fundamentally changing our nation’s economy. With AI, the automation of certain workforce tasks can be successfully achieved, but it could also disrupt the livelihoods of Americans. Though institutions and policies need to be put into place to update, strengthen and adapt strategies that increase the benefits and mitigate costs.

These were the key insights from a recent White House report that also showcased how AI-driven automation will continue to create wealth and expand the American economy in the coming years.

As highlighted by Federal Times, the report suggests the best strategies for addressing economic transformation is training Americans for future-leaning jobs and aiding workers in transitioning to an automation-enhanced economy.

From a government perspective, AI will eventually offer a new way to best serve citizens. According to this recent GCN article, computer systems will soon be able to learn, reason and decide at levels similar to that of a human, which will make government services more insightful and intelligent.

This article also highlights how AI will impact government agencies, which include the following:

  • AI will enable government workers to be more productive since the technology can be used to automate many tasks.
  • AI will create a faster, more responsive government.
  • AI will allow people to interact more naturally with digital government services.

As the pace of innovation continues to move at lightening speed, AI will be one area that will transform both our economy and how government operates.  The key will be developing the right policies to enhance workforce training and development, while also procuring the right innovations for enhancing government effectiveness.

AI is the new technology frontier, and if embraced correctly, it will make our government and global economy stronger and more nimble.
